The MIE Racing Honda Team has completed its first tests of the year at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain. Midori Moriwaki’s squad takes to the track just a few days after confirming Leandro Mercado as its rider for the 2021 World Superbike season.

This two-day test gave the Argentinean a first opportunity to get to know both the team and his new CBR1000RR-R FIREBLADE, as this is in fact the first time Leandro finds himself riding a Honda. Weather conditions were almost ideal, and this meant that he and the team could make the most of their track time as they start to get to know each other and plan the work schedule with a view to their upcoming track commitment.

“I’m pleased to have completed this test with my new team and new bike. The whole deal only came about in the last few days, and I haven’t ridden for several months of course, but the test was very important to allow me to start understanding the bike, particularly because it’s the first time I’m riding a Honda. And then I’ve got to know the team and make some decisions as to the direction we’re going to follow. The important thing was to collect data and information and now we have more idea as to where and how to work. This has been the first step, and now we need to continue to improve.”
